South York Multi Academy Trust (MAT) Orchestra is an exciting new initiative launched in January 2018. Our MAT Orchestra is open to upper Key Stage 2 instrumentalists from across all of the MAT primary schools involves students in Key Stages 3/4 at Fulford who act as inspirational role models for younger pupils. The orchestra rehearses once a week during term time, from 4-5pm on Wednesdays at Fulford School in B4. There will be performance opportunities for the children throughout the remainder of the year and beyond, all under the direction of Mr Kier Hall. Kier has worked extensively in music direction projects across the country and is a completing his PhD in composition at the University of York.
The Orchestra is allowing us to firmly embed Music into the culture of the multi-academy trust, providing an opportunity to aid transition, offer new experiences and also develop a sense of collaboration across all member schools. All schools benefit from having children involved in the orchestra, with a recent study in a school in Bradford highlighting the impact that extra music provision can have upon academic results alongside the proven pastoral benefits. There is already fantastic work going on in our feeder primary schools and Fulford is delighted to support the existing provision across the whole trust and work collaboratively with all involved to ensure high quality music provision for all of the students in our care.
Currently, the Orchestra is open to Year 5 and 6 students of all abilities, playing any instrument. We are keen to foster a love of music across all instrumentalists and young musicians, and welcome all to attend!
If you would like to get involved or have any questions, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your child’s name, school, instrument and approximate standard. Parents are welcome to wait in the Music Department or alternatively return to main reception at 5pm to collect their child.
