Welcome Message from the Headteacher
I am writing to you on behalf of all my staff to welcome you and your child to Fulford School or if you already have a child here then to restate our aims and values.
Fulford School has a reputation for high standards both in terms of exam results and behaviour. This reputation has been based on excellent relationships that have been fostered over the years between staff and students and between staff and parents. Our most recent Ofsted report in May 2011 which graded Fulford as “an outstanding school” endorses this
“What makes Fulford School an outstanding school is that it manages very successfully to promote both the academic and personal development of all its students”
“The school is very orderly and there is a strong ethos for learning which supports all students. Behaviour during the inspection was outstanding”
“A very large majority of parents and carers are very happy overall with their children’s experience at school”
The key to this has always been relationships and that no matter how much the school has grown we take great pride in the fact that we value each student and aim to treat each student as an individual. Our decision to move to a Vertical Tutor system was designed to aid with this and feedback from our students and especially via our surveys of Year 7 Parents is that this has further improved our provision. Our Directors of Learning will very quickly get to know your child and in addition they are ably supported by an excellent back up team of support staff. Four key members of staff in this process are our Student Support Officers who play an important role in terms of advice, support and mentoring to enable your child to fulfil his/her potential.
This transition website is a new venture within our Induction programme which includes visits to the Primary Schools by the Directors of Learning and Mrs Rees, Deputy Headteacher, to see the students and talk to their teachers, the curriculum day at Fulford School plus other activities culminating in the evening for new parents and students on Thursday 12 July 2012.
Fulford School like all other schools has a new set of rules and procedures for students joining Year 7 and we understand that this can add to the uncertainties that surround transition. However students and parents should not worry unduly because we believe our Induction programme allied to the support and guidance that is available once pupils start at Fulford School will ensure that the transition is a smooth one.
Remember if you are concerned about anything then please do not hesitate to contact us if you cannot find the answer to your question on the Year 7 Transitions page of our website. Also we will be grateful to receive any feedback with regard to this addition to our website or about any matter related to transition.
