Operation Spoke
Tuesday, 12th January 2010
Dear Cyclist
Your local safer Neighbourhood Policing team is currently working together with the Safer York Partnership to launch OPERATION SPOKE. This is an innovative cycle registration scheme aimed at reducing cycle theft throughout the York area.
The initiative will mark your bicycle with a unique reference number and then record your details and your bikes details on a property database.
The process will only take a few minutes and is completely free. You will simply need to bring along your bike and provide a few details along with the make, model and frame number of your bike so that North Yorkshire police can identify it in future. Alongside this all cycles registered as part of Operation Spoke will also be automatically registered on a national property database which will allow other police forces to identify your bicycle if it were to be stolen. Your details will not be shared with any third parties.
A number of registration events are taking place throughout the York area from the 13th January 2010 until the 22nd January 2010.
A dedicated registration point will be established on Parliament Street York between the hours of 10 am and 3pm from the 13th January to the 17th January. If this date and location is not convenient to you please visit www.yorkagainstcycletheft.co.uk for further event listings.
Alternatively you can contact your local safer neighbourhood policing team who will make arrangements for an officer to visit you and mark your cycles.
If you have any concerns or would like any further information regarding Operation Spoke then please don’t hesitate to contact us
